My trip to the Four Winds Renaissance Festival

After you have attended the Waxahachie Scarborough Faire, you use that as a measuring stick for all other shows.  I was excited to get to go to the Four Winds faire but I was surprised at how small it was.  It was easy to get to but I had a run in with the county Sherriff over an expired inspection sticker and he gave me a warning but it got me into a bad mood at first.  I was expecting to be there most of the day but there was not enough things going on to spend the whole day.  I was a little disappointed with the lack of venders there.  There was alot of open land where they could have set up some more vendors.  The best thing about the faire was the jousting.  That was great.  I took some pictures which I will post shortly once I get the pictures developed.  I was glad that I went but my expections were set high and I was let down a little bit.  Well at least I know what to expect next time.  I am getting geared up for the Waxahachie show coming up next month.

Yes it was a big disappointment for me as well. The vendors were precious and Dusty and his lovely lady were oober sweet but I just cannot justify going back. After Scarby or TRF, it is just not worth the trip. Too much time and effort goes into my planning and preparing to attend too small an event. Live and learn right?

I use Texas Renaissance Festival as my measuring stick, Scarborough is TINY compared to that, I'm afraid to go to any others seeing as they're small compared to Scarby. It's an adventure anyway, right?

I look at the "spirit" of the fair rather than the size. A prime example is the Virginia Fair. It grows every year but the cast puts their heart into it and makes it great for the patrons. I had the pleasure of being part of that fair for two years. I am booked for four small fairs around Virginia this year will most likely not be able to even visit VARF.
Just as an example, I worked at both MDRF and PARF in the first years and both were small fairs with great spirit. Look at how far they have come in twenty some years........

I have thought about vending at Four Winds for a couple of years now . . . your post certainly makes it sound enticing, if small. Maybe this year.

    Well met, Mellon.*
